Beat the Weekend Blues

Goodbye Weekend Blues
Goodbye Weekend Blues

It’s the beginning of a new week, it’s a new day. And if all you are thinking is “I want the weekend back again” or “I don’t want to go to work today”, then you may be a victim of what we call the ‘Weekend Blues’.

Yes, we know it can be quite a task to leave the comfort of your bed and head to work to face another agonizing week. But you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do, right? Here are a few tips that can help you make it through the week with a smile on your face.

Stay relaxed. Pick one out of the two weekends as a day for tiring activities (either Friday or Saturday) and relax the next day. Call your friends over and catch up with life stories over a cup of good homemade coffee or tea.

Stop thinking about the weekend. Yes, there are 7 more days to go before the weekend comes back again. But thinking about this fact will only make the week ahead seem more daunting. Divert your attention to something else instead- maybe about what you’d like to eat for lunch or a fun event that may be coming up at work.

Dress up. Wear your newest clothes or the most vibrant colored outfit from your wardrobe to feeeeel good! Chances are that looking your best could be your perfect pick-me-up!

Plan the first day of the week in advance. Planning? How boring, right? Wrong. Planning in advance the first week day will help you stay in tune with your work and maybe even look forward to it. You don’t have to plan anything extravagant – think of what outfit you’d love to wear or what breakfast you’d like to have.

This brings us to the next point… Start your day early. Yes, we agree it takes time to get back into the zone on the first day of the week. And it is this precious time which slips away faster than we blink. And in your rush to get everything right, things may go a little haywire. Save yourself the hassle and have an early start to avoid feeling like work is punishment.

Give yourself some ‘me-time’. It could be anything that becomes a part of your morning ritual to give you a head-start. Read a few pages from your favorite book, call a friend or family member in case you live alone, have a good breakfast or indulge in some crick-removing yoga.

Buy something new. You don’t have to break the bank for this one- it could be a new pen, a fancy notebook, basically any stationary item that you would look forward to use.

Music is also important. Listen to some good music, melodies that make you feel happy and make you want to break out into a dance. You’d be surprised at how much better you start to feel.

Plan something to look forward to. When you know there is something good in store for you at the end of the day, getting through the day becomes that much easier. Plan an evening out with a friend or think of an activity you’d love to do – cycling, long walks, making dinner – anything that floats your boat. (Psst, we don’t like to brag, but if dinner is not on your to-do list, we make delicious meals at #AlGourmet!)

Start your day with a smile. Think about a happy moment or a joke that could tickle your funny bone. If you can’t do either, smile anyway, because even though you may not realize it at that moment, you just earned yourself another blessed day.

TIP: If you'd like to eat your way to happiness, start your day with a bowl of oats. If oats sound mundane, spice them (literally!) with a pinch of cinnamon, cocoa powder, vanilla and honey. You can’t go wrong with this combo!
